So in my mind it’s basically the weekend!

Sounds like the perfect time for a fun style post don’t you think?

What I’m Wearing:

Wildfox ‘Dinner Party Embellished Patches Sweater’ (sold out currently…lame-sauce I know.) BUT FEAR NOT, I have some fabulous alternatives: This sweater is on my current shopping wishlist. The light vanilla color, loose fit & embroidered detail is perfect for spring! I’m really drawn to this pink Marc Jacobs embellished sweater too. It screams take me to the beach or Palm Springs! Forewarning this one is a splurge.

Style Tip: I also love the idea of customizing your own sweater with patches you’ve hand selected. Etsy has TONS of amazing patches. Just type in whatever patch you want & it is highly likely you will find a seller on etsy.com that makes it. For example, this sparkle fries iron on patch would be perfect. I also love this wine glass patch & this peace hand patch. Hmmmmm…I think I foresee a DIY project in my future.

Topshop ‘Joni High Waist Skinny Jeans’. I really want this version of the ‘Joni’ with a released hem which is super on trend for spring.

It’s in the Details:

I love picking accessories that stand out; ones that instantly draw the eye in. A simple & easy way to achieve this is by adding a pop of color. I took inspiration from all the vibrant patches on my sweater & pulled primary colored accessories to make the outfit pop even more.

Quay Australia ‘Stop & Stare 58mm Square Sunglasses.’ I call these my “movie star” sunglasses. They are big, beautiful & so light weight. Even if I don’t have a stitch of makeup on, if I add these babies I instantly feel glam. I pulled these for this look specifically because the pink frames went perfectly with the lips on my sweater.

Rebecca Minkoff ‘Finn Crossbody’ in Harvest Gold. I like that the strap is removable so you can have the option of a clutch. While this style & color combo is currently not available, the almond color (great for everyday) is on sale here & the olive version is on super sale here. I love this fringe suede bag too.

If you love the Harvest Gold color specifically, here is another bag by Rebecca Minkoff in the same shade.

Mr. Kate ‘Horn Lariat’,‘Glimmer Ring’,(sold out currently; get on the waitlist by clicking the link,) ‘V Collar Necklace’ similar necklace here & finally the ‘Stalactite Ring’.

Personal Note: The Stalactite Ring is my most favorite ring that I currently own (next to my wedding rings of course.) My husband gave it to me for Christmas this past year, so it has a lot of sentimental value outside of it’s beautiful aesthetic & mixed metal coolness.

Mossimo for Target ‘Irene Ghille Lace Up Pumps’ These are such great dupes for a “higher end” brand (wink wink.) I actually find this pair much more comfortable than the more expensive option. They come in black too! I mean for $34.99 what’s not to love!?

My Girls Night Out Outfit

When I was putting this outfit together I kept thinking about going out with my girlfriends. I absolutely love girls nights & this outfit really spoke to that type of occasion. As we get older & busier, I think it is super important to carve out some time with your girlfriends. Those girls that make you laugh, can commiserate, offer up sage advice & helpful tips, let you blow off some steam & most importantly allow you to relax a bit & have some fun.

More & more often these days while I definitely want to look good, my main goal is to feel comfortable, especially for a Girls Night. I’ve just reached a point in my life where I don’t want to worry about shoes that are killing me after 20 minutes or a dress that doesn’t let you breathe or sit down, etc…..

While I’m basically wearing “jeans & a sweater,” the off the shoulder element & bold red lip make it a bit sultry & the details I chose in the accessories (animal print, blue velvet, glitter heels & gold accents) amp up the fun aspect.

Outfit:

Wildfox ‘Don’t Care Cambridge Sweater’ (available in all sizes.) Also available on the Wildfox website in select sizes here. This sweater is soooo soft & the embroidered messages on the front & back are amazing! I love clothing brands like Wildfox. Their designs give off a sense of frivolity & a bit of humor. Any piece of clothing that makes me smile or gives me a chuckle, I’m instantly drawn to.

Shopping Tip: Nordstrom price matches everything they sell. If you find a deal on something somewhere else, let them know & they will honor it as long as the size you want is still available on the other site/store too.

STS Blue ‘Taylor Embroidered Tomboy Jeans’ I have to admit that when the whole embroidered jean trend was first introduced as a current staple item to have in your closet, I was a bit skeptical. But when I found this pair of relaxed jeans with the delicate embroidered detail on one side, I was instantly more open to the idea of embroidery on someone over the age of 18.

Marc Fisher ‘Factor 2 Sandal’ Um blue velvet & gold glittery heels!? Yes please!

Mr. Kate ‘Moon Crater Ring’ & ‘Geo Diamond 3-in-1 Necklace’(no longer available.) I love this option & this necklace is to die for too.

Quay Australia ‘Cherry Bomb Sunglasses’ I really like the shape of these sunglasses. They are a bit funky & cool but still have that aviator vibe.

Sole Society ‘Jemma Clutch’ (sold out.) I love this one for only $45, this one if you want to splurge a bit, as well as this oversized option (on sale.)

Mini Big Bear Getaway (Day 2)

It snowed while we were taking these pictures & you can tell by my face that I’m super excited about it. I always tell people I’m “selectively outdoorsy.” In my mind that basically means I will go out into the elements for a few hours maybe even the entire afternoon if I’m feeling adventurous but by the end of the day I’ll want: a hot shower, soft bed & warm drink waiting for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried a lot of “outdoorsy” things in my life from ziplining (twice) to parasailing (on our honeymoon, that’s a story in itself!) I have a bit of vertigo, so I feel pretty brave whenever I do something involving heights. I’ve kayaked quite a bit & tubed down a river in Michigan. I’ve gone snorkeling & attempted wake boarding (epic fail.) Hiked to waterfalls & “mud bugged” in Kauai. I can’t say I am particularly good at any of these things but hey I gave it a shot. Okay back to Big Bear!

Places We Visited:

Nottinghams Restaurant & Tavern– This is where we met up with our friends after their day on the slopes. Get 10% off your bill when you check in with YELP. I had the biggest burger I have ever seen! Prices are fair & the place is huge! Good spot for a large group. Service is a bit slow but the staff was great.
Murray’s Saloon-dive bar but friendly local vibe. Try their “nachos.” They are basic but actually really good because the chips are made to order.
North Pole Fudge & Ice Cream Co.– Their fudge was delicious! We also had mint cookies & cream bark. Yum!
Broadway Cafe– Neighborhood vibe with lots of bbq options. Their online menu is completely wrong but the food is great. I recommend calling to get an idea of the food options ahead of time. We had mimosas on the patio that were delicious. A must: ordering the cheesy chilli tots. You won’t regret it.
Downtown (in general)– Walk along the main drag, grab a coffee, pop into boutiques, bars, restaurants etc…it’s a great way to spend an afternoon or evening if the weather is good.

Sperry Lace Up Rubber Boots. These are extremely old (you can still find them on ebay & poshmark) but the best thing about rubber boots is how durable they are. I found the current lace up boots by Sperry on their website here.

Pom Beanie I found this tan beanie on sale at The Daisy Shoppe in my local mall. It’s a little boutique with lots of girly clothes as well as sweet gifts like mugs, kitchen accessories & wood signs. Check out their online store here.

Diff Eyewear ‘Bella – Matte Black Frame- Pink Mirror Lens.’ Diff is a charitable eyewear company. For every pair sold, they donate a pair of reading glasses. They’ve partnered with”Eyes on Africa.” A non-profit organization with the purpose of distributing glasses to communities in Africa where there is no vision care.
